Having thumbs = no nap

Almost every day after our walk my dad leaves our den. When I look out the window I see most of the people leave their dens too. they are almost gone for the entire day. Then after my afternoon nap and after my mom leaves my dad returns smelling weird . Then after my evening nap my mom returns smelling funny also.My cousin Arthur told me his mommies do the same thing….. Weird.

I asked my dad why him and my mom go away for so long and not nap with me in our den all day. Since we already walked and peed in the woods it seems like a waste of day being away all day long and not to nap.

He told me both him and mom go to work.

I told him that didn’t sound right.

Because my friend Elvis the Great Dane is a working breed and he stays at home all day long.

My dad told me because humans have thumbs they have to work for a piece of paper called money. Then they take that paper to other humans to exchange it for treats.

That’s probably why it takes all day to work.

I told my dad it’d be easier to go to the guy with the treats, show him his thumbs get treats and come home and nap.

He told me he’ll give it a try.

Thank god I don’t have thumbs

Don’t believe everything you see

Just when my dad was telling me anything in life can be a lesson for the seeker, we came accross this sign.

It says to go straight and to turn left. Anydoggy could simply dismiss it as yet another sign for humans making things more confusing. Which we all know is true.

We Ridgebacks like to put to practice what we learn right away. So I started investigating.

And came to a quick understanding of how the life works.

There are many ways to get where you are going, and the shortest way may not always be obvious, and signs could be confusing, what you must do is smell.

That’s why god gave us 2 ears, 2 eyes, but just 1 nose.

When I shared my discovery with my dad he begun to laugh, and that’s always great.

You’ve got to be flexible

My dad is the coolest person I know. He knows almost everything there is to know about life. And he loveeeees talking to people about life and he even teaches others how to live a balanced life.

It must be hard to live a balanced life with only 2 legs. But he does it. Everyone loves to hear him speak. They invite him to places, pay him money just so they learn how to have a balanced life.

We Ridgebacks are naturally balanced dogs. We have 4 legs and a long tail. So we’re never out of balance, and of course it doesn’t hurt to have a cool dad like mine either. Because I get to listen to him practice his talks at the woods.

And now I have this blog I can share them with you.

So far what learned about happy and balanced life is flexibility is the key. My dad says people must be flexible about life and about themselves. That explains why I am always happy.

I am flexible.

Here is the proof.

My Auntie Erin is a Master

Tomorrow my Auntie Erin is going to give a concert up at the mountains. I’ve never been there, but my dad said there will be a lot of pro-lion and pro-squirell people there and it’d be best for everydoggy if I sit this one out and keep an eye on the house and dogsit Arthur.

My dad is the smartest person I know. If he was a dog he’d be Ridgeback for sure.

Anyways. Because We Ridgebacks have great hearing ( don’t tell my dad please he thinks my hearing is not so good because I don’t always want to sit when he wants me to)

I can hear her practice at their den, and she sounds so good.

In fact I love it so much every morning when my dad let’s me out at 530 I bark bark bark bark to make sure she gets up and start practicing some more so I can hear her beautiful songs.

My dad said she became a master and she has to show off her mastery, and I know that’s always fun. I remember when I mastered ringing the bell by the door to go out to potty everydoggy in the house was happy. So I know whatever she’s playing she did master it and everydoggy at the mountains will love it too.

Good Luck Auntie. Break a leg……… make sure it’s not yours. You only have 2.

Here my Auntie Erin demonstrating her mastery of corn eating.

Ridgebacks 1- Lion lovers 0

Djembe the dog calling some one’s bluff

We Ridgebacks are the smartest dogs with insatiable need for learning and figuring things out.

Think about it. My great-grand-parents used to hunt lions. Most humans have never even seen a lion in real life.

Anyways.

So we are at the park, someone (quite possibly a squirel or even a lion lover) made this sign to somehow restrain dogs.

I thought it was hilarious.

First of all everydoggy knows the leashes are for humans to keep up with their dogs and know which way to go.

Second of all only humans are affraid of empty threats. We dogs only live in the now, so we have no concept of what humans call as future. And while we’re living in the now if there is a threat there are only 2 options Fight or Flight.

As you can see from this picture I decided to call the bluff wait for the whoever (quite possibly a squirel or a lion lover) put this silly sign up.

But Nobody showed up.

The win once again goes to Ridgebacks.

I went to the park this morning

Djembe the dog reading

When my dad puts on his gray we’re going to the park pants and big we’re going to the park socks and puts on we’re going to the park shoes and it is right after we wake up…. I know what that means…

WE ARE GOING TO THE PARK.

And that’s exactly what happened this morning.

My dad woke up. drank his morning glass of water, sharpened his teeth with the white buzzing tooth sharpener, put on his we’re going to the park pants, and big we’re going to the park socks and we’re going to the park shoes, and we went to the park.

It was great.. Like the old times we were the first ones at the park. If you look at the picture of me reading where we are, you can see it was still dark. But we think that’s the best time to be at the park.

Best friends chasing squirels, peeing on bushes. Just being a pack you know. It was great.

Great powers come with great responsibility

Couple nights ago my Auntie Joni (youngest of mom’s litter mates) left her puppy Paxton at our house.

I thought he could hang with me like Arthur does, but didn’t happen.

My dad and mom didn’t let me show him the ropes and rules of the back yard.

It seems all of my aunties have small dogs :o (

I always though I was always big but my dad reminded me I was little when I was born, and told me I should be more aware of my awesome power and be gentle with smaller dogs. Just when he said that I remembered he was telling me about my powers and importance of being gentle.

Lucky for me my mom had taken our picture right at that time, and when I saw the picture I remembered the whole conversation.

We Ridgebacks have fantastic memories and never forget things, but it’s always better to have visual reminders.

Burr It’s coooold today

Djembe the dog

We Ridgebacks come from Africa and everydoggy knows it’s nice and warm there, but we live in Charlotte now where the weather is unpredictable. Right when the weather was getting nice and warm, it got really cold today.

I was hoping I could grab one of dad’s long sleeved shirts to stay warm when I go out to chase squirels, but my dad said if it’s cold enough to wear long sleeved shirt, it’s cold enough to stay indoors.

It’s quite the dilemma, These are the days I hope I had long hair like my mom and aunties.

I decided to give up the shirt and go out an play. I can quickly dig a hole( I wonder if Arthur is coming over today so I can blame it on him) and warm up in no time.

I am already covered with fur. I guess it’ll be OK.

I got to go. I see a squirell in our back yard

I didn’t get to visit Aunt Jerre….. Again

Yesterday my mom and dad went to visit Aunt Jerre. They didn’t take me.

I used to go visit her and Uncle Claude all the time, but one of the human cubs is allergic to dogs, and she was going to be there so I stayed at the back yard. Which was just as well, because I think I am allergic to human cubs too.

I was talking to my cousin Arthur the other day, he told me she’s not allergic to him and he was feeling down and feeling less than a dog…. But I assured him that he is a dog and more than likely he will stay a dog for all his life.

Just because a girl who is allergic to dogs can play with him does not making him a not-dog.

So I missed out on going to Aunt Jerre once again, but my dad told me he set her home page to my blog, so she’ll read about my adventures.

:::::::::Hello Aunt Jerre::::::::::

Anyways. So I spent the entire day hanging out at the den enjoying the quiet backyard to reflect on the things matter most.

Smelling my butt, chewing on dead limbs, and relaxing under the sun, and be ready to pounce on my Aunties and Arthur when they come to visit with me.
