The other day I was walking on the snow with the Big Guy.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed pawprints on the snow. Sometimes there were two sets of pawprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of pawprints, so I said to the Big Guy,

“You promised me Big Guy, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of pawprints on the snow. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Big Guy replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of pawprints, my creation, is when I carried you.”

Everydoggy knows we Ridgebacks have the best sense of humor in the world.

Now days where ever I go people keep saying I’m “becoming a Man”

I was quite worried about that for a while. Don’t get me wrong I love my mom & dad, but I would much rather be a dog. They’re cool and when I was a puppy I thought they were gods, but I’m almost 5. That makes me almost as old as my dad. I know things.

We Ridgebacks are also very fast on our feet I even amaze myself how quickly I can come up with stuff.

When my dad was explaining to me what humans meant by “becoming a man”

7, Zilli & Nellie were out playing. So they didn’t hear the explanation.

Upon their return I told them ” They better sit. I have some terrible news.”

So terrible that if it was out in the open the world as we know it would come to an end.

I could only tell it once. So I will whisper it to 7 and he will whisper it to Nellie, then Nellie will whisper it to Zilli.

and I told them

… When we dogs turn 5 we actually become people. In fact that’s how our parents are our parents. They were dogs first 5 years of their lives and when they turned 5 they became people…

It was too funny. You should’ve been there.

They were so freaked out. I could barely keep myself from busting out laughing. -I had to think about the time I got attacked by bunch of fire ants and my lip was swollen like a hipo’s lip.

Anyways here I took their picture. Heh Heh Heeeeeee.

Here Terrified 7 sharing the secret with Nellie. See her face? She was going “What? What?”

Next Nellie is telling it to Zilli.
You can see Zilli is going in to her “happy place” and 7 can barely keep himself from running away

It was too funny.

But just like any great big brother (and host of course)
I quickly told them:
“No we are never going to be humans. We will always remain dogs.
Eternally loyal, always unconditionally loving, always present in the now, and connected to The Source.”

And they were happy.
Here you can See 7 Laughing out Loud and Nellie making her best people impression

Everydoggy knows we Ridgebacks have a great awareness of how the universe works. One thing I noticed that sets us dogs apart from humans is that we live in the moment. That’s the secret of happy life for a dog….. This way when I’m eating that’s all I think about. If I’m itching my left ear that’s all I think about. So like a great Zen Master for me everything is always now and always forever. It’s great great great… but.My dad is gone somewhere and hasn’t been back yet.Although I’m quite busy with making sure my mom is safe, my brother 7 doesn’t eat things he’s not suppose to eat and/or rearrange the house with my sister Zilli while my mom is out too…..
We Ridgebacks are naturally caffeinated dogs, so I don’t drink the stuff, but I occasionally go to coffee shops with my dad. Places my dad takes me usually have doggie treats, and those I like.

One of my favorite places to chill with my dad is at Smelly Cat coffee shop in NoDa.

Just from the name of it you know it’s where the cool people hang out. Smelly Cat. enough said.

First of all they are friendly to well behaved dogs. They provide all you can eat doggie treats, and all you can drink fresh water. The place is owned by Auntie Cathy who is always nice to me. She calls me by my name, and she only hires dog loving people. Cats are not even allowed in the place.

On dry mornings, we usually sit outside. While my dad enjoys the sun rising over the tree line and thinks about his homeland, I keep an eye on the buses, trains, and other loud noisy vehicles and greet all my friends who are taking their morning walks with their humans. (Mad shout outs to Lucy, Milu, Cheeseburger and Dozer)

Anyways, it’s totally worth making a trip and checking out the place. Remember the name….. Smelly Cat. It should be easy to remember.
